EATING to Release Weight
The secret to releasing weight lies in your ability to boost your metabolism
If you have read any of my previous articles you know that I promote an “inside out” approach to weight release – but I also recognize the need to have tools and strategies to aid you on your weight release journey. Here are some tips to help boost your metabolism:
The simplest way to burn calories is to increase your metabolism. The types of food that you eat, along with the way that you eat, have a profound effect on your metabolism. Strategic eating can turn food into fuel that your body efficiently and effectively burns. Calories that are consumed can be processed as energy rather than stored as fat. The key to activating this process involves understanding the following principles:
7 ways to boost your metabolism
1.You need to eat a certain amount of food. Never eat under 1,000 calories or your body will go into “starvation mode”. This occurs when your metabolism automatically slows down to conserve energy. This is a built-in survival mechanism, which is triggered when your body detects that food is becoming scarce.
2.Start eating early. Try eating breakfast within thirty minutes of waking up. This sends a message to your body letting it know that there is fuel to burn – activating the metabolism. It is also important to drink water first thing in the morning to counter act the natural dehydration that occurs during the night.
3.Eat frequently. You will want to “fuel” your metabolism every 2-3 hours with effective portions of healthy foods.
4.Certain foods provide better fuel. You will want to consume appropriate amounts of protein and fiber in order to best fuel your metabolism. Foods that are high in protein and fiber are harder for your body to break down. The energy required to digest these foods promotes a healthy metabolism.
5.Pass up empty calories. Be sure to make your meals and snacks meaningful. Feed your body the fuel it needs to run optimally.
6.Avoid carbs in the evenings. Simple carbohydrates move very quickly through the digestive track. While your body can process a certain amount of simple carbohydrates during an active day, eating simple carbs at night can lead to weight gain. The excess calories that travel rapidly through your body will probably not get burned off during sleep and will likely be stored as fat.
7.Support your metabolism with plenty of water (avoid diet soda). Your metabolism will work most efficiently and effectively if there is sufficient water in your diet
Having an active metabolism is an important part of releasing weight. Following these tips will help insure that more of the calories you eat will be burned as energy rather than stored as fat in your body.
