Healthy Dessert Bowl

Instead of reaching for a carton of ice cream after dinner, why not make some healthy frozen yogurt or sorbet to satisfy your fruit cravings? You can mix plain fat-free yogurt with almost any fruit. Treat the environment well too and go for fruits in season right now: berries, peaches, cherries, melons, plums and apricots. While an ice cream maker helps, you do not need one for most frozen yogurt or sorbet recipes. To make simple sorbet, simply freeze pieces of fruit on a cooking tray covered with waxed paper. Puree in the food processor with sugar, agave nectar or honey to the right consistency and a touch of lemon or lime, if you like. I love to mix kiwi with agave nectar and a few squeezes of lime. Pop into a lidded container and freeze. Try this great seasonal recipe for Port Plum-Raspberry Sorbet. For a delicious dessert anytime, try this Mango Frozen Yogurt. For the healthiest dessert I’ve ever seen, give this Tofu Green Tea Ice Cream a try. The tofu gives this dessert a creaminess similar to real ice cream. Green tea is full of beneficial antioxidants and can also help boost your metabolism.
