Staying fit on a budget

Posted by admin on February 18th, 2009 at 05:17pm

I always try and eat healthy but there tends to be a lot that gets in my way — no time to prepare a healthy meal, late night hunger pains, and so on.  But one of the things that always gets me — eating healthy can cost a lot!  Sometimes, when browsing the aisles at Whole Foods, I just wonder how in the world anyone can afford all organic, healthy groceries.  It seems impossible in this economy.  Celebrity Fitness trainer Valerie Waters has the answer!

Waters suggests six easy tips to make living healthy affordable:

1. Eat a healthy breakfast everyday.

2. Bring your lunch to work.

3. Learn how to cook a few satisfying but healthy meals.

4. Make a grown-up playdate and go hiking, take a dance class or go for a scenic bike ride with your spouse or best friend.

5. Skip the gym and circuit train at home. Valerie features five fitness videos on the California Raisins website that are easy to follow and can be done right at home.

6. Ditch unhealthy temptations and instead stock your fridge and pantry with healthy eats like fresh veggies, low-fat dairy and of course raisins!

Think how much you could save, both money and weight, by just bringing your lunch to work every day! Sounds like Valerie knows how to stay fit and stay out of debit. For more of her advice, read her column here.
