Many people think that cutting back calories or fat is the one thing you can do to stay healthy. They rely on processed foods that don’t give them all of the necessary nutrients. If you want to stay young at heart, you need to eat small amounts of good fats like avocadoes, walnuts and salmon.

These foods may not be calorie free, but they are guilt-free! They are packed with Omega-3 fatty acids that help boost the immune system, reduce blood clots, and protect against heart attacks. They also act as anti-inflammatories, increase good HDL levels, protect arteries from plaque buildup,  and lower blood pressure.

We have compiled a list of recipes that will be sure keep your heart healthy and strong. These are recipes with nutrient-rich ingredients that taste good too! We have simple soups, hearty meat dishes, delicious desserts and everything in between.

Here are our top 5 recipes for a heart healthy meal:

  1. Acorn Squash Bisque
  2. Ambrosia Stuffed Sweet Potatoes

    These recipes look great -
Speaking of good fats, I’ve heard that many times you just need a bit of fat to curb your appetite, although we are inclined to grab a big carbohydrate to fill us up. An avocado or handful of nuts is much better!

So true! We are much more inclined to eat a 100-calorie pack of cookies or fill up on diet sodas just to curb our appetites for the meantime. These are empty calories that aren’t giving us nutrients and won’t fill us up for long. I know I’m guilty of this once in awhile myself. Great suggestion to snack on avocado or nuts– just watch your portion sizes!
