A new study by the National Cancer Institute shows that meat-heavy diets are scientifically linked to early death in the form of cancers and heart disease. Followed for 10 years, 545,000 men and women were closely studied to see the effects of consuming the equivalent of one quarter-pound cheeseburger a day. They found that the male participants had a 27% higher risk of heart disease and 22% higher chance of dying from cancer. And ladies, it’s even worse for you! Women who consumed the same amount of red meat had a 20% higher chance of dying from cancer and a 50% chance of dying from heart disease. I don’t know about you, but those odds are going to make me stay far away from red meat! For the whole story, read the USA Today article here.
