Why do People Eat Fast Food?

A recent study published in the research journal Obesity found that knowing fast food is unhealthy does not keep people from eating it. The University of Minnesota study looked at the relationship of attitudes towards fast food and how often people eat fast food. For this study, 560 people were surveyed by phone.
Strangely enough, people that said they thought fast food was unhealthy ate as much fast food as those who did not think fast food was unhealthy. For these people, a belief that fast food is unhealthy is not enough of a deterrent to keep them from eating it. The study also found that people who did not like cooking and those who found fast food convenient ate more fast food.
This study suggests that people are more concerned with cost and convenience, then the unhealthfulness of fast food. Obviously, health messages are not making an impact. Nutritional publishers and other organizations need to stress just how important nutritious food is for overall health and happiness. Healthy meals can cheaper than fast food and just as quick and easy to throw together.
